In the northern part of the historic town of Thimi lies this heritage site, where nine stupas are situated on a platform approximately 3 feet high. In Nepal Bhasa, “Gugah” means nine, and “Chiwa” refers to stupas, which forms the basis of its naming. The presence of Manjushree Pali (also known as Pau) in this heritage area further enhances its significance.
Although there are no records available to provide information about its establishment, its connection with various cultural practices performed in Thimi town hints at its antiquity. During events such as sacred thread ceremonies, weddings, Janko, Sāyaḥ, and Gunlā, the tradition of circumnavigating the settlement includes a customary visit to Bal Kumari in the southern part of the town and this heritage area.
