Tihar in Madhyapur Thimi, a vibrant municipality in Bhaktapur, is celebrated with a unique blend of cultural tradition and local customs. Known as the festival of lights, Tihar is a time when homes and public spaces across Thimi are adorned with oil lamps, colorful rangolis, and marigold garlands, creating a warm, welcoming glow.

The festivities begin with the worship of crows, dogs, and cows, each animal symbolizing various virtues and protecting forces in Hindu beliefs. On Laxmi Puja, the third day, residents invite the goddess of wealth, Laxmi, into their homes, lighting the path with rows of oil lamps and candles. One of the highlights in Thimi is Mha Puja, the Newar ritual of self-worship, performed on the fourth day.
